If you dont have a heap of time for exercise, I have some good news for you. The old methods of burning fat, where you spend hours on a treadmill or a stationary bike, are outdated and in fact, detrimental to your weight loss. Scientific research has recently proven that interval training is the most effective way to burn fat and lose weight. Good news! The research was done by the University of NSW, and published in January 2007. They used the following interval training routine:
High intensity training for 8 seconds
Recover for 12 seconds
The intervals were conducted for 20 minutes with 5 minutes warm up and warm down. It is recommended that you consult a medical practitioner before you start any type of exercise program, especially interval training which is tough on the body. Depending on your fitness, do this routine, or a shorter one, every second day.
Interval training is great for burning fat while you exercise, and also after. That is the beauty of this form of training. As you tone and build muscle, your metobolism increases, resulting in more fat being burned, even while you rest!
So, interval training is great to accelerate the burning of fat, but you need to tone and build your muscles over your whole body. That is where circuit training is great. You can incorporate circuit training with interval training to further accelerate weight loss and add variety to your workouts.
